Family Adventure to New England: Massachusetts!

By Sarah F.

Pre-Children, my husband and I took a trip to Boston and to this day, it still remains my favorite city!  So when we traveled to all 6 New England states in 8 days, Boston qualified for a 2-day tour!!!!  There’s just SO much to see and do, even outside of the amazing Freedom Trail and heart of Boston!

During my research phase I stumbled across the Museum of Science in Boston that had high accolades on every site I looked at.  Quickly added this to our itinerary and then spoke to a rep from the museum who welcomed my family to check it out in exchange for our honest review.  I’d never travel with children to this area WITHOUT visiting this museum, and that’s the legit truth!  It was the most incredible Science Museum we’ve ever visited- and we’ve been to SEVERAL!  And the best part, exhibits change, so it won’t ever be redundant!

First of all, the museum is enormous.  It’s very clearly mapped out though.  Each wing is color coded and the map is very specific in telling you what exhibits are where.  When approaching the counter to purchase your tickets, come with all of your days plans.  You need timed tickets for every special portion of the museum, including Omni movies and the Butterfly House.  So having an idea of where you’d like to be and about what time is helpful.  But if you don’t have a clue, which was our situation, the staff member is very helpful in telling you how much time to allot and what exhibits are close to each other.

This is the most interactive and hands on museum we’ve visited, which is why it will likely always remain our numero uno.  All four children, ages 10 down to 4.5, and my husband and I felt completely entertained and engrossed.  For those who can’t read, there are phones to listen to the information.  My son LOVED the independence factor in this!

A few (just a few, truly, there’s too many to list) of our favorite exhibits were the Butterfly House, indoor playground, and Shells and Geodes.  We also all learned a lot from the Volcano movie and while it was a little scary because of the suspense factor, everyone had a super fun time at the 15-minute shark movie!  We were sprayed with water, the seat jolted, and we learned a lot along the way!

We took a total of 4 hours to tour the museum, and while we were finished, we would have enjoyed another hour, easily, but alas, we shut the place down!

Disclaimer:  In exchange for my honest review, The Museum of Science in Boston gave my family comped tickets to enjoy the museum and several experiences inside. All opinions are my own.
