TICKET GIVEAWAY: Cirque du Soleil’s VAREKAI in Allentown

1) World-Class Performers! – 50 artists from 19 different countries with top level acrobatic and performance skills. Varekai pays tribute to the ancient and rare circus tradition of Icarian games and Georgian dance, along with Russian swings, aerial straps & hoops, handbalancing on canes, dancing on crutches, and Cirque’s famous clowns!

2) Varekai pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and to those who quest with infinite passion. Varekai fuses drama and acrobatics in stunning displays of skill and power set against innovative music and otherworldly sets, interwoven with vivid choreography that speaks to all in the universal language of movement.

3) Varekai’s spectacular costumes! There are over 600 costumes, shoes, wigs, hats and accessories, all custom-made at Cirque’s costume workshop in Montreal.

4) All Cirque performers apply their own make-up before every performance— which impresses me immensely considering I can’t even get my make up done right for date night, yet they’ve mastered the exact same look performance after performance!

5) Technical & logistical wonders!….Cirque is known for their cutting-edge visuals, special effects, spectacular scenery and intricate set design. There are over 300 trees (in the Varekai forest), a stage designed with five traps, two turntables, an elevating platform; and a catwalk used by artists to travel over the stage from one end to the other.

6) Original, live music is performed on-stage during every performance, along with two singers. The band consists of seven musicians, combining a vast repertoire of world music from different cultures— Hawaiian rituals, songs of 11th century troubadours from the south of France, traditional Armenian melodies, and gospel music with contemporary arrangements to conjure up the unique musical universe of Varekai.
