Visible Fictions arrives at People’s Light in this “sly, silly, sophisticated, and altogether winning take on an ancient Greek myth” (The New York Times). Two actors portray over 25 characters with boundless energy and numerous action figures in the tale of Jason and his crew as they journey to the other side of the world to bring home the Golden Fleece. The production is aimed at anyone from age 9 and beyond and is guaranteed to entertain kids as well as adults with fond memories of the original book and film.

Douglas Irvine, Visible Fictions’ Artistic Director said “I’ve never forgotten the thrill of seeing the Harryhausen film version for the first time as a child. The purity, inventiveness, thrills and scares it and the original story offer is something I want to pass onto new audiences.” Visible Fictions is recognized in the UK and internationally for creating innovative and dynamic theatrical productions for young people. Since 2006, the show has toured the UK, Canada, Australia, and the U.S. (including New Victory Theatre in New York).

Douglas Irvine, Director
People’s Light debut. Theatre Includes: Artistic Director of Visible Fictions. He has directed many productions for the company, including Jason and the Argonauts which has frequently toured the USA, Canada, and Australia; Shopping for Shoes which has toured across the USA, Canada, Ireland and Germany; Curse of the Demeter, (a site-responsive piece on The Tall Ship in Glasgow); Peter Pan, a co-production with the Children’s Theatre Company which ran in Minneapolis, and then toured to various theatres across Ireland and the UK; and Zorro. He was also co-creator of the Bill’s New Frock and The Red Balloon, both of which toured the US and Canada extensively. Most recently he directed the large-scale, outdoor production Cargo with Iron Oxide and the Edinburgh Mela, Clockwork, a co-production with Scottish Opera, the country’s national opera company, and The Hunted.

Other theatre work includes the role of Mr. Farthing in Kes (Perth Theatre), Touchstone & Adam in As You Like It (Oxford Shakespeare Festival) and Angelo & Pinch in Comedy Of Errors (Cambridge Shakespeare Festival). He has also worked with Scottish Opera on their production of Twelve Days Of Christmas. Radio includes The Home Front (BBC).
