PHILADELPHIA, May 15, 2018 – Registration for GSK Science in the Summer™ is opens for Philadelphia-area second- through sixth-graders who want to spend their summer with the sun, moon and stars through one of the region’s longest-running and most beloved STEM enrichment programs.
Parents and guardians of students entering second through sixth grades in the 2018-2019 school year may register online at www.scienceinthesummer.com to experience the Science of Space through fun, hands-on activities that teach the basic concepts behind spectroscopy, micrometeroids, rocketry and more. Level 1 classes are perfect for second and third graders, while Level 2 classes are ideal for students entering fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Pre-registration is required for all locations and class sizes are limited.
“Scientists and astronomers have made extraordinary discoveries about the universe in recent years, making this is an exciting time to introduce young people to worlds beyond ours,” said Marti Skold-Jordan, manager of community partnerships at GSK. “The Science of Space classes will make the connection between these discoveries and STEM concepts and skills in a way that children will remember for years to come, and that will help ignite their scientific curiosity for a lifetime.”
GSK Science in the Summer™ is in its 32nd year. It began in Philadelphia as part of GSK’s commitment to supporting STEM education and has grown to be a program that engages young people across the country. This summer, nearly 5,000 Philadelphia-area children are expected to participate in the program, joining thousands more worldwide.

GSK Science in the Summer™ classes will be taught by certified local teachers at libraries in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties. Participating libraries will also receive children’s science book donations to further support continued learning in their communities.
