Have you seen the newest, and most fun, kids’ retail shop in Kennett Square? You can’t miss the adorable, and super cool, panda with a hip yellow hat as you pass down State Street. Customers who have already been into the shop fell in love with how colorful and jovial the scene at Penny Lane Emporium is!
“Happy kids, happy parents, happy shopping,” is how owner Shannon Blake sums up her fresh, fun approach to kids’ retail.
Shannon is a mom, she gets how unbelievably draining shopping for our minis can be. It’s how she dreamed up the brilliant idea of creating “a cool shop where kids were welcome and you could find something smart and different.” Penny Lane Emporium is Shannon’s vision come to life, and every Chester County moms dream come true!
After 17 years in corporate retail, Shannon woke up one morning in October 2016 and revisited her dream and vision for this shop. “All those years of building knowledge and experience, and the support of my family, brought me here,” she says with appreciation.
Where did the name “Penny Lane” come from? Well, what do YOU think of when you hear it? If you said, “the famous Beatles song”, you win! The shop exudes the spirit of the street the Beatles made famous. Walking in, one can’t help but notice all of the unique finds, captivating apparel for both girls and boys, and flair that every child covets- such as books, gifts, and even Mochi- treat-sized ice cream wrapped in sweet rice dough. There is a wonderful play area designed with curious kids in mind, a Little Free Library, and toddler-height clues about the tricky resident
mouse (those who find him are rewarded with a lollipop).
Shannon is a native to Chesco, she grew up here and moved back three years ago with her husband and two young daughters. “I can’t imagine starting this business anywhere else,” she says. And since her motto is that “Business brings business”, she’s excited to connecting with families and is loving how collaborative everyone she meets has been. Shannon goes on to say, “there’s so much happening in Kennett. It’s on the verge of expanding in a big way.” And we sure are excited that Penny Lane Emporium will be a part of this big expansion!
