I love the way Hello Fresh is packaged. It was nice getting a giant box (The Family Box) with 3 boxes inside, each containing the contents for a meal. The size was easily stores in the refrigerator, almost similar to a soda case. It was also well organized and labeled. Check out the different types of Meal Plans they offer (https://www.hellofresh.com/tasty/food-boxes/). Each one provides delicious recipes and the ingredients, and they’re delivered right to your door.
Two things that I would say I’d “change” from my experience, were that I wish there was a “best by” date on the box. This is because I had too much going on the week my delivery came (totally my own fault) and I didn’t get to cooking things when I had hoped. So my spring mix wasn’t fresh enough when I made that particular meal, and some of my grape tomatoes had started to go bad. Otherwise, it was all fresh and delicious. I also found two typos that made me question what I should do, but in the end it all worked out. Because, well, it’s dumby-proof cooking since everything comes pre-portioned!
The first meal I made was the Quickest Mac and Cheese with Spinach, Tomato, and Cheesy Breadcrumbs. I always love a good excuse to use my beautiful cast iron pan, and this meal looked (and smelled) glorious in the pan! It was just as described, easy. I love how the instruction cards tell you what level the recipe is. This was a 1. Unlike some of the other delivery services, Hello Fresh does not include butter and olive oil, otherwise everything needed came in the handy boxes. The linear step by step directions were easy for me to follow and they were to the point. There were images too, though pretty, not necessary to aid in the cooking process. When all was said and done, we all loved this meal!
I next made the Mega Meatball Mariana with Creamy Polenta, Zucchini, and Mozzarella Cheese. I will never make meatballs the same again. Adding zucchini got my 4 year old to love meatballs! She isn’t into red meat much, but loves zucchini. This added vegetable made them juicy and a little different of a flavor. It was perfect, and healthier. And I think the hamburger patty was brilliant for making a mega meatball! My husband and I enjoyed the polenta, but I played it safe and made a batch of noodles for the kids, just in case. This was a level 2 meal, but really wasn’t too taxing at all!
Finally, I made the Creamy Prosciutto Panini with Fresh Mozzarella Cheese, Basil, and Green Salad. Like I mentioned above, the salad they sent couldn’t be used (my fault), but I had some spring mix on hand so we were fine! This meal rocked. It was well-balanced, fancy looking, easy to make, and really tasty! My 2-year old is the worst eater right now. He devoured this! And my ham loving 6 year old now has a pallet for prosciutto, ooh la la. This was just such a simple, yet sophisticated, way to serve my family grilled cheese. It was great!
I would really recommend Hello Fresh and their Family Box. These 3 meals were terrific for family meals, and made plenty of food for our crew of 6 (I’m sure it helps that my 4 kids don’t eat a ton).
