You’ve probably seen the posts… your friends standing on a stage, holding a painting that looks way too good to have been done by average-Joe’s. Well, I’m here to attest for the fact that us “Average Joe’s” really can paint pretty darn well at Painting with a Twist! It’s such a fun, therapeutic, encouraging, positive, cathartic, and different experience. I highly recommend you go! And better yet, gift someone you care about with a gift certificate to go as well!
Last weekend, my husband and I went to Painting with a Twist in West Chester. This location is about a year old, and is already so well known. With such a fantastic location and business model, this doesn’t surprise me at all! They are located off of Rt 3 in the shopping center with Burger King and Giant, across from the WaWa gas station and Tall Trees Apartments.
Each month, my other half and I take turns planning a date night. November was my turn, so I planned a date-day for us! No better way to wrap up a weekend than to spend it quietly with the one you love, right? We went to the ice cream place in the shopping center to get a milkshake, then went into Painting with a Twist. It’s a BYOB/snacks, so this was perfect! I have gone with friends before and brought wine and snacks. The facility is decked out with terrific buffet tables for you to lay your stuff on, a fantastic wine opener on the wall (I covet one for my basement bar!) and you can even get there early to enjoy your goodies prior to painting!
We painted a couples painting, so each of us had a canvas and we worked together to create the scene. The original colors were pink and yellow, but I wanted a fall look, so the instructors were awesome in helping me get the right colors I was looking for! I loved how flexible they were as well as encouraging us all to do our own thing if that’s what we feel like doing.
The way the class works is there is a sample of a completed project. There is an instructor talking on a microphone and televised on 3 different live-stream screens, plus you can see her on the stage. She takes us step-by-step through the process of completing our painting. While this is going on, there’s an assistant walking around helping individuals, refilling paints, answering questions, etc. I needed help because my leaves weren’t coming out quite right. She came over and talked me through it. We also needed assistance when a brush hair got stuck in our painting. It’s so nice to have that professional support while still doing something with our own two hands!
Our fall scene is on our mantel. At Thanksgiving, everyone was so impressed that WE did that! I can’t wait to pull this fall decoration out every October! What great memories!
