Locals, surely by now you know that the Devon Horse Show & Country Fair is currently going on. It actually runs from May 26-June 5 this year.
Tip 1: Bring cash for parking, it’s $10. Unless you drive around a whole lot and pay $7 and walk a bit.
My family went Memorial Day weekend. It was a great alternative family activity to do this time of year!
If you haven’t been before, the Devon Horse Show & Country Fair is a unique experience. The classes in the ring range from adorable kids in lead line classes to horses jumping huge fences to grand coaches with coachmen blowing their horns. Many kids also enjoy the costume pony hunt teams on the first Saturday. Check the link above to see the schedule. Outside the ring, there is a variety of food options, a midway with games and rides for the kids, complete with carousel and Ferris wheel. There is also shopping at the dozens of boutiques that move in for the 11 days of the show.
We watched some of the horses jumping. We are not an equestrian riding family, but we were all super impressed and enjoyed it! The children even enjoyed walking through stables watching horses eat and get groomed.
There’s an adorable Country Fair with some games and rides.
Tip 2: Tickets are $1 a piece and each ride is 4 tickets, and they only take cash.
We paid $20 for 24 tickets, which we bought, and allowed each girl to go on one ride. It was just enough time and then we moved along to browse the shops. At that point it was 11:30 and the crew got hungry. So, lunch time was calling! A pizza, some fries and quintessential tea sandwiches were on our menu. Mmmmm.
Then we went back to watch more of the Horse Show until it was time to go home for naps. Such a fun family day!
