One of the latest toys that made the TTPM list wound up in my house the other week. The TTPM team of experts and toy industry veterans select toys based on their value, longevity and entertainment features. The LeapBand wearable activity tracker rose to the top as a top toy this year among thousands of submissions. LeapBand is the cool wearable activity tracker that encourages kids to get active with customizable virtual pet pals. LeapBand tracks kids’ every movement and suggests fun active challenges – and the more they move, the more points they earn to unlock virtual rewards for their pets and get to new levels!
Inspired by the Partnership for a Healthier America and First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative, the LeapBand activity tracker gets kids moving and having fun with 50 different challenges, tracking a child’s physical moves so the more active a child is, the more points they earn with their virtual pet. As the child earns points through active play, they can unlock additional levels of play and virtual rewards for their on-screen pet. LeapBand has an adjustable wrist strap designed with children in mind, and high-tech features including a built-in accelerometer, a high-resolution color screen, a rechargeable battery and water-resistant design, making it the ultimate activity wearable for kids.
Children get to pick a pet and name it. Then they learn about healthy eating habits while taking care of their pet. They also get to “play” by grooming, feeding, and petting their new pet, which allows them to ear accessories.
LeapBand was designed with children in mind, and high-tech features include a built-in accelerometer, and a high-resolution color screen. I’m super impressed that there are parent controls on this device! We can determine when they shouldn’t be playing on their LeapBand. There’s also a rechargable battery, whew! And since this is made for play and movement, children may sweat, splash water while washing their hands, etc. Things happen, and LeapFrog knows that. So the LeapBand is made to be water resistant. Smart, very smart!
To assist with auditory processing, and for those children who can not read the instruction manual, there is a button featuring audio instructions. This is perfect for the 4-7 year old age range as they are emerging readers.
My only tip, be with your children when they play on this. It’s not a touch screen and so technically some games can be played sitting down, but it depends on how sneaky your children are. *wink *wink
