Last November, my dear friend Michelle, a social worker in Chester County, posted a request on her personal Facebook page..Can any of my friends help me provide a nice Christmas for a small class of 16? Knowing that Michelle works with underprivileged preschoolers,
my immediate reaction was YES, I CAN!
Michelle works for the Chester County Head Start Program and she serves families that are under the poverty line. This means a family of four that earns less than $23,500 a year. That’s before taxes! These families have to buy food, shelter, medicine, electricity, water, transportation, clothing and so much more on such little money.
I grew up as a child of a single parent. My mother worked day and night at several jobs as needed to accommodate my schedule. It wasn’t easy, but I rarely wanted for anything. I know how hard my mother worked to make sure I had what I needed. I knew that these parents are working hard too, but they needed some help. So, last year I reached out to my friends and family and the response was immediate and overwhelming. Within days I had car loads of gifts pouring in. Together, Michelle and I with the support of our tremendous sphere of influence were able to provide gifts for all 16 kids off the list. Then she called again, “Do you think we can handle one more class of 15?” Yup! We did that and then another. All together we made 48 kids ( and their parents) so grateful on Christmas morning.
So my question to you dear readers is ….
Can we help provide gifts for 450 children currently in the Chester County Head Start Program?
