East Ward Elementary School needs a new playground!! The castle playground, built in 1991, is a wooden playground that is on an unavoidable path toward deterioration! It is safe and usable now, but East Ward Elementary Home & School Assn. wants to replace it before the need is imminent, so there will always be a playground there for the community to play on!
Leathers & Associates is the company originally responsible for the castle construction. They took a look at the East Ward playground last year, and basically gave two recommendations: either 1) do a “good renovation” that would last about 10 years and cost about $120,000; or 2) replace the playground “hopefully with something as exciting and impactful on the community as the original playground.” This last option, if done through them, would cost about $180,000, plus materials and other costs.
East Ward Elementary Home & School Association is looking to replace the playground, in its entirety, with a new modern playground that will be as exciting as the castle playground was in 1991 and would in itself be a destination for families! We want the playground to move us into the future, to battle the increasing problem of childhood obesity, and to provide some equipment beneficial to children with special needs. Our new ideas include playground components like this.
The cost for this equipment is $203,231.85, including installation. We are certain that this project will help enhance not just our school, but the borough, the district, and beyond.
We are holding two fundraisers right now: one is a presentation by Victoria Wyeth, the highly-entertaining granddaughter of Andrew Wyeth. Tickets for the show TONIGHT, February 28th, can be purchased here.
We are holding a golf outing on May 5th, 2014 at Radley Run Country Club. For more information and to sign up, please click here:
