North Star Orchard is located in Western Chester County and specializes in growing high quality produce, many varieties of which are not available commercially. All of the fruits and veggies are sold at area producer-only farmers’ markets and the farm’s CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)
The farm consists of hundreds of varieties of unique and heritage apples, dozens of varieties of peaches and plums, as well as several varieties of Asian and European pears, nectarines, and a wide assortment of vegetables.
What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture or CSA, models differ somewhat from farm to farm, but in general terms members sign up and pay in advance for a share of produce which they pick up weekly during the harvest season. The up-front commitment from members allows the farmer to more efficiently and effectively grow his/her crops.
Meanwhile, members are more connected to their local food system and have a personal connection to the farm, other members, and the people growing their food. Plus, members receive wonderful, fresh local food in season, often receiving varieties that are not available in the grocery store. CSA is often the next best thing to growing your own.
CSA Veggie and Fruit Shares are still available from North Star Orchard. Fruit Shares are still available for pickup in several Chester County locations Veggie Shares are still available at the farm itself, located in Cochranville (western Chester County)…see coupon below for savings!
