I am taking a break from the tips to talk about a cause that should be near and dear to all mothers’ hearts.
Today I want to highlight March of Dimes, which is a wonderful organization that is dedicated to helping women complete full term pregnancies and give birth to healthy babies. I have a good friends who knows first hand the benefits of such an organization and I want to share their story.
Julie and Matt Long have an adorable daughter Abby was born by emergency Cesarean Section on December 1st, 2008 at 30 weeks gestation. Weighing only 2Ibs, 14oz she spent the first 46 days of her life in the NICU. When Abby was finally allowed to go home she was 4Ibs, was on oxygen because of her underdeveloped lungs and wore a heart monitor for apnea. Abby has some developmental delays but is under the watchful eyes of professionals and is receiving early intervention. Thanks to organizations like March of Dimes and the proceeds from events like the March for Babies, Abby is a healthy and happy little girl.
During the month of April, 32 locations across Pennsylvania are holding their annual March for Babies that raises funds for research to help women sustain full term pregnancies and prevent and treat conditions that result from preterm deliveries.
Our local Chester County 5 mile March for Babies is being held in Downingtown. It is not too late to donate or register for the walk.
