I must say, I never gave much thought regarding the type of utensils my toddlers use. Typically, we have used the florescent plastic variety found in any baby aisle at the store. I sometimes wonder how safe they are, especially with the whole BPA issue in plastics that has been in the news in recent years. So the opportunity to review Oneida’s Child and Baby Flatware Set was a welcomed one!
I love the idea that my children can use a child friendly version of grown up flatware. When the flatware arrived it was packaged in such a cute little display. To the left side was the baby flatware and to the right was the toddler flatware. The Baby Flatware set includes two spoons and a fork while the Child Flatware set includes a knife, fork and spoon. This set is wonderfully ideal for us as I have a just turned 1 year old and a nearly 3 year old.
We selected the Brahms pattern, which has the most adorable little flower on it. I can imagine us using this set for holiday dinners so that everyone has shiny flatware at their place as well as for everyday meals. The Oneida flatware is stainless steel, so it is dishwasher friendly which is something I am always looking for in any product these days. I certainly do not need to make any extra work for myself with two little ones running in circles at my knees!
That I was giddy with excitement when I found my package at my doorstep might well be an understatement. I think I was smiling ear to ear for some time that night. We were able to use both sets as soon as they arrived, which I admit made me a bit giddy with excitement. At just shy of 3 years old, I don’t see us letting my older son try out the knife any time soon. However, my son does love his shiny new fork and spoon! He has been asking to use them for his dinner every night. If you don’t have two little ones close in age like I do, this is definitely a grow with me set that you can use from the first solid foods right through the preschool years!
The Oneida Child and Baby Flatware Set has made a lasting impression on my son and I daresay he will not be too happy to go back to his old plastic-ware. This set also makes an adorable baby shower gift and it is definitely something I am keeping in mind for a close friend of mine that is expecting her first child this fall.
