Fast forward a good twelve years or so. I became a mom. I found myself being up ridiculously late hours, many nights in a row, and then up so early that I was able to become the neighborhood watch, keeping unofficial track of my neighbors’ comings and goings, seeing who was an early bird to work and who was a straggler (many times the straggler was actually my own husband, as he was part of the late night crew for feedings!)
How did I get through those crazy days and nights? Thanks in large part to my new friend – coffee! For something that I shunned much of my early adult life, I now found that I could not start a day without it. Add another child to the mix about a year later, and well, coffee and I have been inseparable!
So when I recently got the opportunity to satisfy my coffee cravings and sample some at home flavors from Dunkin’ Donuts (which both my children were able to identify by sight before 2 years of age, thanks to their love of munchkins and mine for coffee), I jumped at the chance.
As part of an at home Dunkin’ Donuts tour with The Mom Bloggers Club, I received a package of three delicious coffee flavors to sample: Hazelnut, French Vanilla and Cinnamon Spice. I knew that if the coffee tasted as good as the package it came in was smelling, that we would be in business!
As I typically don’t drink straight “old school” coffee the way my dear dad does, these flavored coffees were right up my alley. The first one we tried (I enlisted my husband to also sample the flavors) was the French Vanilla. It was excellent – I have often tried iced French Vanilla coffee when my husband would get one while out, but have to say that this was a nice surprise. The smell of vanilla is something I love from being a kid and baking with my mom, so when you put that together with good coffee and serve it hot, well, for me it’s a home run!
The second flavor we sampled was the Cinnamon Spice. My first reaction was that drinking this was like consuming a cinnamon roll in liquid form! It smelled so good while brewing (imagine your favorite cinnamon scented holiday candle burning in the kitchen) and it tasted just as good. Even my husband who is more a purist when it comes to coffee drinking, enjoyed the taste of this coffee, which I think will now become a staple in our kitchen.
The final flavor we brewed up to taste was the Hazelnut. Now, as anyone who knows me could tell you, I love hazelnut flavored candy, and even tried to dabble in doctoring up my husband’s super strong regular coffee with some hazelnut syrup to make it taste “better” – but that ended up in the trash. So both of us were then pleasantly surprised with the Dunkin’ Donuts Hazelnut flavored coffee. It was not overpowering to the point that you could not taste the actual coffee, and my husband said it tasted very similar to what you would get at the actual Dunkin’ Donuts store.
All in all, we really enjoyed the ability to have the Dunkin’ Donuts experience at home, especially these flavored varieties – and now I want to give you the opportunity to win a bag of your own to brew at home.
