This time of year, there’s no reason to buy produce that’s been shipped from Timbuktu. These days the farm stands in our area are filled to overflowing with juicy ruby-red tomatoes, luscious fuzzy peaches, scrumptious green beans and colorful rainbow chard. We’ve been buying local produce all summer, and the flavor is out of this world. Just yesterday, my 7-year-old daughter declared passionately, “Mom! I like fruit better than candy!“
Buying fresh and local stimulates our local economy and promotes goodwill within the community. You might even see someone you know! And there’s nothing quite like looking into the eyes of the person who produces your food and knowing exactly where it comes from and how it is grown.
And if your favorite farmers’ market is not listed on the site, please let us know!
