Saturday, July 31st, from 10 am to 10 pm, at the King of Prussia Mall
The event is aiming to raise over $200,000 to benefit AIDS orphans and their communities in Africa. The event will bring together over 1,200 shooters, attempting over 600,000 free throws – each shot helping transform the life of an AIDS orphan.
This effort was first started by a nine-year-old, Austin Gutwein, who was moved to action after seeing a video by World Vision, a humanitarian relief organization, about a girl from Zambia who lost both her parents to AIDS. Austin garnered sponsors that would pay $1 for each shot he made. Austin shot 2,057 free throws, one for every child orphaned from AIDS during an average school day. Hoops of Hope event has since raised over $1.8 million to build a school, medical clinic, water system and two orphan hope centers in Zambia.
The family-friendly event features:
40 Courts dedicated to Free Throw Shoot-a-thon
