The WCGM has lots of exciting things in store for the month of June! I won’t give too much away, but here are some teasers: Quilts and Pies.
I have been loving the weather we’ve been having for the Markets on Saturday mornings. The sun has been shining, without it being too hot. It is a joy to see small traffic jams in the parking lot due to people catching up and having friendly conversations.
Have I mentioned I love community?
I spoke with Paul, our Market Director, last week (well, I stop in and speak to him every week, but that’s besides the point) and he gave me some good produce heads-up to pass along to all you Faithful Market Goers:
1) Peas will be at their height over the next week or two. This season they are especially short-lived due to the hot weather we’ve been having. So if you’ve been enjoying fresh peas, make sure to get your fill while they are still at the Market
(Blogger Sidenote: I’m not the biggest pea lover. In that, I don’t like peas. Not even in England, with vinegar. While I was speaking to Paul, he excitedly made me try one of his sweet pea pods – entitled “Super Sweets.” I wanted to be kind, since he is our Market Director. And he was so jubilant, I couldn’t let him down. So I took one of these over-sized pods and bit down. I was delightfully surprised, to say the least. There was not one hint of the normal bitterness one often finds in green vegetables. This pea pod was truly sweet with every bite. So, if you are a Pea Naysayer like myself, be brave and try one of these Super Sweets. It’s worth it!)
2) Asparagus and Strawberries are almost done their run. Click here to continue reading…
