The Student/Family matinees serve as field trips for over 1500 students from as many as 20 different Greater Philadelphia area schools each year, as well as numerous home school families. Admission to these season production-series regularly ranges from $20-$35. However, they reduce the Student/Family Matinee tickets to $10.00 in order to make the arts more accessible to children and families. In addition to lowered ticket prices, Brandywine Ballet provides attending students with a performance program the day of the event, and curriculum packets in advance of the event, which include programmatic details, general ballet technique and history, and educational games. During intermission, ballet dancers and performers come out into the audience for meet and greet, and a Q & A session.
In 2009, Brandywine Ballet will implement a new blog/message board initiative, which will provide students with an opportunity to interact and discuss the ballet on-line with Brandywine Ballet dancers, and their peers and instructors. All Student/Family Matinees take place at the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall on the campus of West Chester University. The collegiate environment in which Brandywine Ballet’s performances take place reinforce the educational impact of the program, shining a positive light on institutions of higher education for students at an important and impressionable age.
The Student/Family Matinee dates are Dracula (Oct. 23) and The Nutcracker (Dec. 11 & 17). Both are at 10 am. Interested teachers or homeschool moms should contact The Brandywine Ballet office directly at (610) 692-6402.
