It’s funny- I do receive emails and comments everyday about savings, coupons, events, and sales… but one thing that readers also want to know is where in the world I keep all of my “loot” from various couponing trips, especially Kmart Super Doubles.
First off, I am fortunate that I have a lot of space in our house. Not only do we have a basement that’s just begging for more stockpile shelves, but I have a chest freezer AND a spare refrigerator in the basement. They are ESSENTIAL when it comes to stocking up on meats and freezer goods. The rest of my stockpile goes either on shelves in the basement or in the (starting-to-overflow) upstairs linen closet.
You need to keep your available space in mind before hitting the stores. My sister, for example, is very limited on space. She lives in a townhouse with no basement or attic, and already has a storage unit to hold their extra furniture and odds and ends. She does not do nearly as much couponing as I do because she simply doesn’t have the space to hold it all.
You also need to be realistic about what you will use. Always check expiration dates on products. If I can’t use a product before it expires, I give it to friends or family or donate to a local shelter.
My stockpile goods are always changing. I am always taking from it and adding new things… one week there might be 15 cases of soda, another week a dwindling soda supply but 20 boxes of cereal that I got for $.19/box!
Here’s a look at my current stockpile.. I took pictures of the linen closet and the basement and kitchen shelves… the only thing I left out was another small bathroom closet and under the kitchen sink, where I have things like soaps and medicine.
Basement & Kitchen:
p.s. I had a “ketchup heckler” when I posted these pics on my site- just in case you’re wondering, YES I will use that ketchup before it expires (2011). I love ketchup more than life itself. If I were stranded on a desert island and could only bring 3 things, ketchup would be one of them. LOL 🙂
